  • Zimbabwe Digital Agriculture Ecosystem Assessment

    We’re carrying out a digital agriculture ecosystem assessment to better understand, work with, and support Zimbabwe’s digital agriculture ecosystem. The final deliverables will bring together desk research synthesis, interview findings, and actionable recommendations for how USAID/Zimbabwe can integrate digital into their programming.

  • Scaling Agent-Based Banking and Digital Financial Solutions in Rural Uganda

    Working with Ensibuuko and Opportunity Bank, we are increasing agent banking and digital financial solutions in four regions of Uganda, with the intention of expanding the DFS capabilities of rural farmers, small agribusinesses, and micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Our team is providing technical advisory services to Ensibuuko on digital community entrepreneurs (DCE) and saving group customer segmentation, as well as delivering our “Hey Sister! Show Me the Mobile Money!” digital financial literacy campaign to onboard new customers.

  • Digital Agriculture Ecosystem Assessments in Haiti and Honduras

    We provided technical assistance to The Bureau for Resilience and Food Security in its ongoing support of Haiti and Honduras Missions through digital agriculture ecosystem assessments. This work involved stakeholder mapping of the relevant actors within the digital agriculture ecosystem in each country, and identifying key challenges and opportunities for more effectively leveraging digital technologies in the agriculture and aligned sectors among the different stakeholders.   • Seed Company Digital Transformation Case Study

    We helped identify, understand, and document the changes that occurred to the business health of Equator Seeds Limited and along its supply chain as a result of digitization. Business health in this context is shaped by the presence and performance of systems, processes and personnel. A multifaceted metric that combines financial, commercial, and technological factors, it refers to the transparency, cost-effectiveness and efficiency of accounting and finance, procurement and logistics, and trading and retail distribution. The team conducted qualitative data collection on a quarterly basis to monitor the progress of digitization and analyzed this data to develop a case study on the key enablers and barriers faced by ESL over its initial year of digitization.

  • Livestock Finance Consultancy

    We supported FSDU in identifying the constraints and opportunities in agriculture financing. The project focused on conducting appropriate study on financing livestock value chains, the financial infrastructure available and the regulatory framework, digital platforms used in financing livestock value chains, business models applicable in using digital platforms to deliver financial services to livestock value chains, as well as pricing and incentive structures that drive partnerships, business models and digital platforms.

  • USAID/Bangladesh Digital Assessment Follow On

    We provided technical assistance to build on a 2018 digital agriculture landscape assessment. The assessment aimed to create a better understanding of what digital tools and technologies exist in Bangladesh’s digital agriculture landscape. We conducted a desk study on the availability, accessibility and usability of mobile and digital technology, and then wrote a final report on digital agriculture tools, enabling technology and recommendations.

  • Smallholder Financial Inclusion (SFIN) II Project

    We provided technical assistance to Ecobank (as a subcontractor to Farmerline) to help recruit and train Xpress point agents to optimize cash in/cash out, support farmers’ Xpress account creation, and develop a mobile payment rural liquidity framework. The overall goal of the project was to enhance financial inclusion through a broader uptake and usage of mobile savings accounts and mobile money payments for 12,500 farmers in Ghana, with an emphasis on converting already reached farmers and further unbanked market segments of selected agricultural value chains (staple and cash crops) in rural communities.

  • DFS Pricing Concepts for Ag Value Chains in Ghana

    As part of its mandate to empower the poor through financial services, CGAP received funding from the Swiss Economic Cooperation Ministry (SECO) to implement a multi-year project aimed at bolstering the enabling environment for digital financial services in Ghana. We assisted CGAP in designing, piloting and evaluating new product concepts for digitizing payments and the agriculture value chain. Key activities included: 1) refining the product design in collaboration with the project partners and developing an implementation plan, 2) conducting needs assessments of merchants, agents, and smallholder farmers, 3) working with project partners to develop training content that addresses identified needs and delivering training, and 4) monitoring pilot performance and providing periodic reports.

  • Enabling Mobile Money and Mobile Phone Access

    Client: Foundation for a Smoke Free World
    Location: Malawi
    Date: September 2019 - December 2020

    We partnered with MNO Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) and other local market actors to build the capacity of smallholder farmers and two farmer based organizations in the Zomba District to better understand and utilize mobile money to access a broader suite of value added services such as mobile savings, inputs financing and home based solar services.
